Roc des Anges Pi Vell 2021 75cl

    Product Information

The wine shines, a brilliant light gold colour. It has a very complex nose of flint, graphite and white pepper. The palate reveals pure aromas of yellow fruit, mirabelle plum, grape and apricot. The finish opens with citrus notes and conlcudes with a finely spiced saline tension. The Pi Vell parcel planted in 1947- located at an elevation of 260 meters - offers a view of the Pyrenees and the Pic de Bugarach (the highest summit in the Corbières mountains). There we find an old pine, "pi vell" in Catalan. The access road is quite rough, the vines are hard to get to, but once up there it is simply serene and peaceful. All of that breathes through the wine: wind, rock and light. The texture of Pi Vell stems from the absolute minerality of its terroir. Wonderful alongside: bass, sole, in carpaccio, tartar or just grilled. "An incredible run of white wines from this estate concludes with this outstanding wine from 75 year old vines on a north facing plot on the schist soils near Montner. A more open and flattering stye of Macabeu compared to l’Oca with a really explosive palate of preserved lemons, lime peel and salted almonds. A really energetic style of Macabeu with more ‘gras’ on mid palate due to the 20% of Grenache gris in the blend. The location may be very serene but this is a wine to shout about from the rooftops. Marjorie says these grape varieties are made to go together like Grenache and Carignan and on this showing she is not wrong. Exquisite. 2023-2030," 96 points.
